Indra Newlight, Biography

With 12 years in design and a lifetime in the arts, my approach to branding and design is holistic. It is well informed by a broad and varied professional history.

In 1996 I started at International Microcomputing Software, Inc. (IMSI), a San Francisco area software company. I started as a production artist for software packaging, moving up to a Web Developer position and finally to a role as Manager of Multimedia, managing and creating instructional product tours that were bundled with the software. I also worked on UI for PC software interface.

In 1999 I started working in Charles Schwab & Co.’s internal agency CRS Communications. I did primarily intranet work as a Web Designer and sometimes Art Director. I conceptualized and implemented intranet sites, architecture and UI, within the parameters of the Schwab brand.

In mid-2000 I took an Art Director position at the San Francisco branch of Foote, Cone & Belding, creating comprehensive online ad campaigns and micro-sites for corporate brands: Avaya, Blue Shield, Compaq, Dockers, Janus, Slates, Taco Bell and Zima.

In 2001, during the dot-com crash, I began freelancing as a designer, and in 2002 made a choice to pursue film and video, attending The Vancouver Film School. Eventually I went to Los Angeles where I worked as a freelance cinematographer, covering media events, and as a lighting designer and cinematographer for independent films. I also worked as a grip and electrician for Hallmark Films. A complete filmography is available upon request.

In 2006 I returned to the Pacific Northwest to build NewlightCo, a company focused on inspired branding solutions for print, web and video. I now endeavor to bring my rich skillset into your creative department.
